Organizational Capacity Assessment
In order to improve the effectiveness of the organization/company SOCA first, assess the capacity of the institution. The capacity assessment tools that SOCA engages included: Organization Development Assessment Tool (ODAT). This tool is composed of seven areas that can provide clear picture of the organization’s capacity. ODAT tool asses the ability of the organization to govern itself, deliver quality services, recruit right people to the right positions, ensure fund diversifications, ensure the involvement of the stakeholders to their projects and demonstrate effective financial systems. The ODAT also assess the ability of organization to develop sound project proposals, present quality reports and finally ensure the sustainability of their implemented projects. SOCA also engages Financial Assessment Tool, Screen Site Visit, Environmental Assessment Tool, Technological Assessment, Emergency Response Capacity Assessment Tool (ERCAT), Baseline etc. After the assessment, SOCA improves the gaps found through establishment of effective internal systems, policy and procedures and capacity building.
Capacity Building
SOCA having in mind the common weaknesses found during the organizational capacity assessment, set appropriate capacity building interventions. SOCA divided its training programs into two main categories. Category A skills are; Strategic Management/Planning, Financial Management, Project Cycle, Board Management, Human Resource, Fundraising and Internal Systems. Category B skills are; Baseline data and survey, M&E, Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Leadership, Public Relations (PR), Meeting and Stress Management, Peace building, Gender Mainstreaming, Human Rights and Development, Good Governance, Social Accountability and Budgeting etc.
